Constance Stubbs A.R.C.A – Mixed Media Paintings

A keen observer of people, poignant moments of social realism and family life have always inspired this veteran artist’s paintings, which are magnificent in content and often in scale as well!

& Harold Yates (1916 - 2001) – Paintings and Drawings

The late husband of fellow exhibitor Constance Stubbs, it is more than fitting that the works of these two East Anglian greats should finally be seen showing side by side.

SHOWING: 16th June – 12th July 2008

Summer with The Royal College of Art

– Mixed Media by Selected Gallery Artists

Some 15 years ago a dozen artists from The Gallery’s portfolio, all graduates of the Royal College , were invited to come together for a real showcase of the cream of East Anglia ’s artistic talent. And here they are again – Messrs Atkinson, Bartlett , Bawden, Brunsdon, Carlo, two Cheeses, Foster, Stubbs and Tidman – a few years older, a great deal wiser and each with insurmountable reverence and expertise, although sadly missing this time around are the late Colin Moss and Bill Ward.

21st July – 13th September 2008

(NB Summer Closing: 10th – 25th August)

  Christopher Ryland – Flower Paintings

The Gallery’s only dedicated flower painter, Christopher shuns the constraints of botanical accuracy to produce these very contemporary compositions. Whether a jungle of lush garden foliage or a sedate still life study, the imagery is always as fresh as a daisy!

Barrie Houghton – Mixed Media Paintings

If you have a passion for mood, drama and atmosphere then this is the show for you! Having shown at The Gallery for over a decade and now for his fifth time in solo, this Suffolk Artist has become extremely adept in expressing all of these emotions on paper and canvas. His confidence seemingly flows off the brush in broad, sweeping washes, only to be checked now and then when a sudden splash of colour arrests the eye.

& Lesley Carruthers – Sculptor

Good East Anglian sculptors per se are few and far between, but one of such high calibre, versatility AND of the female variety is a rarity indeed! Working predominantly in cast aluminium, but feeling equally at ease at turning her hand to bronze and stone, Lesley prefers an intuitive approach with little or no planning, revelling in the unpredictability of the evolutionary process and final outcome.

27th October – 22nd November 2008

  Charles Bartlett P.P.R.W.S, A.R.C.A, R.E - Recent Watercolours

Although having only recently packed away his etching press for good, this well-seasoned artist of four score years and more still ventures out to his studio on a daily basis to paint – because that’s what he does best! This R.W.S Past President’s new collection of works is a sure sign that his hand is a deft and his eyesight as keen as ever.

& David Jones - Paintings

A ‘regional northerner’, this painter and printmaker of both abstract and figurative work has chosen to go for quality rather than quality in his maiden solo show at The Gallery. By keeping his imagery simple, the detail minimal and the palette pared down to a few choice primary or earthy colours, his bold brush strokes ensure maximum visual impact within these generous canvases.

1st December 2008 – 17th January 2009

(NB Christmas Closing: 25 th Dec. ’08 – 1 st Jan ’09)

  Coming in 2009 ...

Michael Coulter - Watercolours

A glorious exhibition by one of Suffolk ’s favourite artists. It is his beloved East Anglian countryside that inspires his compositions, where birds, animals and ordinary folk make guest appearances doing everyday activities. If you have yet to discover Michael’s work, then now’s your chance!

26th January – 7th March 2009
